Admissions

The Texas Pythian Home is licensed by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services as a 24 hour general residential operation, authorized to admit boys and girls from 3 to 14 years of age.  Texas Pythian Home is a member of the Southwestern Association of Executives of Homes for Children.

Placement in the Pythian Home is voluntary and a parent or grandparent does NOT lose any of their parental rights when choosing this loving option for their children.  Children attend Weatherford ISD schools, are provided the medical and academic attention they need and get to participate in extracurricular activities.  Child Protective Service views placement as a positive step for a parent to take and does NOT view placement as abandonment.

The Director of Childcare reviews the application, and schedules a family interview to determine if the Home will be a viable solution for the family's immediate need.  Texas Pythian Home policy requires the children to be placed for a minimum of six months to give the family enough time to establish a plan of action for the future.  Once the children are placed there is a six-week probationary period during which the children do not have contact with the family.  This allows the children to adjust to the rules, regulations, and routines and get to know the Home's staff.

Separate boy's and girl's dorms are roomy, comfortable, and provide a home-like atmosphere.  The children live with a married couple, called Direct Care Staff, whose parental role is to provide consistency, nurturing, discipline, and counsel.  During the first 40 days, the staff and the Director of Childcare develop a plan of service individualized for each child.  The plan consists of short and long-term goals in five areas: family, social, educational, emotional, and physical.  The Director of Childcare reviews the plan and goals with the child's family every six months.
