Employment & Volunteer

Staff

The Pythian Home employs approximately seventeen people. Each dorm has a husband and wife team, called Direct Care Staff, in the role of parents overseeing the children placed in their care. There are five office employees, consisting of the Home's Administrator, the Director of Child Care, the Marketing Coordinator, the Business Manager, the Secretary, and the Volunteer Coordinator. Additional staff includes the Maintenance Supervisor and two cooks.

The Pythian Home is governed by a Board of Directors. The board is made up of twelve members. The Chairman and Vice-Chairman serve only one year terms. They are Grand Chancellor and Vice Grand Chancellor of the Grand Lodge Knights of Pythias of Texas. Other board members serve three year terms. Board members must belong to the Knights of Pythias and are selected at the annual convention of Pythians in June of each year.

Direct Care Staff

The Direct Care staff are the backbone of the Home. They are responsible for the everyday workings of the dorm. Their job is to care for the children and work with them to achieve their goals. It takes a special person to handle the daily demands of the job. It is the Direct Care Staff's patience and understanding that really makes a difference in the lives of our children. We are thankful there are people willing to give up their personal time to be positive role models. They are changing the lives and preparing these children to become happy, well adjusted adults. We commend each of them.

If you are interested in applying for a position, please fill out an application and either fax it to Lisa Watson, Administrator, at 817-596-7776 or mail it to the Home. There are  currently job openings for Direct Care Staff.  Please understand that due to minimum standards all employees must have a background check and an FBI fingerprint check prior to employment.

Sponsor Programs and Service Areas

Birthday Sponsors

Birthday Sponsors provide a child a birthday gift.  Sponsors receive a reminder notice at least 2 weeks in advance of the birthday.  A Wish List of items the child has requested is included with the reminder.  Some sponsors enjoy shipping for that special gift they know the child will enjoy.  Sponsors may send a check or gift card for the child to purchase their own gift. This is all that is required of a Birthday Sponsor -just remember the child on their birthday.

Off Campus Weekend Sponsors

It is our desire for the children of the Pythian Home to have contact with families outside our campus on a regular basis.  It gives them friendships that continue after they leave the Home.  It is important for our children to have exposure to a family grouping to help them have an acceptable view of family life.  We want these children to feel they are a part of the family which sponsors them.
An off-campus sponsor will take a child home with them the second weekend of every month and also for a week of vacation in June.  You will have the same child each weekend in order to develop a long-term loving relationship.  The child is picked up on Friday afternoon between 4:00pm and 6:00pm and returned to the Home on Sunday evening between 7:00pm and 8:30pm.  Our children are often involved in extracurricular activities, so we ask that you take them to these activities.
We require our Sponsor families to support all Home policies and work within our guidelines.

If you are interested in sponsoring a child off campus please contact Evalyn Fox at 817-594-4465 or email assistant@pythianhome.org. Please understand that due to minimum standards all off campus sponsors must have a background check and an FBI fingerprint check prior to sponsoring a child.
