Sponsorship
There are several types of sponsorship programs available for our children.
Birthday Sponsors…
Remember a child on their birthday with a gift of approximately $10.00 in value. Birthday Sponsors are assigned a specific child and are sent a reminder card at least two weeks prior to the child’s birthday. A “Wish List” of items the child has requested will be included for your convenience.
It is not a requirement to purchase the exact items on the “Wish List”. Several sponsors just send a check or gift card for the child to buy their own gift and this is acceptable. Others enjoy shopping for that special gift they know the child will enjoy. This is all that is required of a birthday sponsor. Just remember the child on their birthday.
We have birthday sponsors that also choose to remember the child at other times throughout the year. They send Valentines, Easter goodies, items for “back to school”, and Halloween treats as well as a Christmas gift. These additional gifts are not required or expected, but we do not limit what you want to do for the children.
Birthday Cake Sponsors…
Purchase and deliver a half sheet cake for a child’s birthday or order one and we will pick it up. Once you are assigned to a specific child you will be sent a reminder card up to two weeks before the birthday with the child’s choice of flavor and theme. You may also elect to donate up to $30.00 for us to order and purchase the cake. We provide each child with their very own cake for their special day.
Off Campus Sponsors…
Take a child home with them the second weekend of each month. You will have the same child each month. The child is picked up on Friday afternoon between 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm or earlier if the child is Pre-K. You return the child to the Home on Sunday between 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm. Our children are often involved in extra-curricular activities, so we ask that you take them to these activities on your sponsor weekend.
It is our desire that the children of the Pythian Home have contact with families outside our campus on a regular basis. It gives them friendships to continue even after they leave the Home.
It is important that our children have exposure to a normal family grouping to help them have an acceptable view of family life. We feel, with regular contact, this relationship can help our children develop properly. We would also like for the children to feel that they are a part of the family which sponsors them.
We ask the sponsor families to support all Home policies and work within our guidelines. Other visits can be made on special request.
Outing Sponsors…
Group Sponsored Outings are opportunities for groups or businesses to sponsor the children on a trip to Six Flags, the zoo, an afternoon picnic, bowling, NRH2O, for ice cream, etc. This can be for the entire group of children, one dorm group of children, or specific children. You may sponsor such a trip financially or physically take the children on outings.
Tutoring…
During the school year the children have study hour from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm, Monday through Thursday. We have an education room full of workbooks and textbooks to provide them with academic activities. Volunteer tutors assist the children when they need extra help with school work. Our younger children also need assistance in preparing for school. Many of them have not had the educational background to excel in school. Spending a few hours a week with a volunteer gives them invaluable help in school. There is a Pre-School room available for those interested in volunteering with younger children.
One on One…
Volunteers are needed to spend time with individual children at the Home. We have playgrounds, games, etc. for you to enjoy while getting to know one another. Children need one on one attention, love, and nurturing to build the self esteem they need to succeed.
Housekeeping…
Volunteers can assist with a wide variety of cleaning, sorting and organizing needs on Monday – Friday between 8a.m. to 5p.m.

OTHER SPONSORSHIP AREAS
Gold Star Program… (July & August Only)
Purchase “back to school” clothing and shoes for a child. Each child will have a booklet with 3 outfits and shoes listed. Items are purchased and returned to the Pythian Home. This helps our children start the school year off right.
Christmas
Christmas is exciting at the Home due to the generosity of so many people. Our Children make "Wish Lists" for Santa and we divide them among several organizations and individuals who so wonderfully bless our children. Truly these folks understand the meaning of "it is more blessed to give than receive", because they do so abundantly. It is these types of events that allow the children to receive items they wouldn't otherwise have.
